Collection: Boxsprings & Foundations
A quality boxspring is a crucial component of a good night's rest. While most foundations are rigid boxes placed beneath the mattress, a genuine box spring (Harrison Spinks) or suspension foundation (Berkeley Ergonomics standalone or in a TEAM 7 wood bedframe) is designed to enhance the comfort, support, and pressure relief of any mattress.

We recommend reading our boxspring & platform bed guide. In this guide, you'll find detailed information on the function a boxspring serves, and an entire section devoted to platform-style bed support systems.
Types of mattress supports:
- Boxspring
- Typically between 5-9" tall and designed to be supported by a bed frame that is lower to the ground. These bed frames are often identifiable by having very few cross supports. This bed frame type includes old-school metal bed frames with feet or wheels
- Sometimes split into two words (box spring) and also called a foundation
- Some boxsprings offer legs, which removes the need for a bed frame to support the boxspring. Our Harrison Spinks boxspring is one such example
- The collection of products on this page is of this style
- Platform Beds
- This style of bed frame is intended to remove the need for a boxspring
- The platform is usually slatted wood
- It is critical to ensure the slats are strongly constructed and not spaced too far apart. The Mattress & Sleep Company encounters poorly designed slatted platform beds every day. If the slats are too far apart your mattress will not be adequately supported
- Please read our boxspring & platform bed guide for more details on selecting a well-designed platform bed or head over to our platform bed collection to see our curated offerings
- Adjustable Beds
- Adjustable beds bend and tilt at the head and foot ends of the bed, allowing the mattress to bed in unison. This provides the option to sit up in bed for health reasons, reading, watching TV and more
- Adjustable beds are typically electrically adjusted, although manually tilted slatted adjustable beds also exist
- Adjustable beds replace a traditional boxspring and they usually include legs. Many adjustable beds also fit in bedframes with headboards and footboards.
- There is a growing category of adjustable beds in a low-profile design intended for use on platform beds. Our Ergomotion Ebreza is a great example of such a product
